Ayá Cavalcanti is 35 years old, non-binary transmasculine, a documentary photographer, curator, and mentor. Self-taught, they studied and lived most of their life in São Paulo. They began their professional career in 2012 after years of documenting their family’s daily life. As a photographer, they work with documentary and authorial photography, building narratives around human rights, gender issues, affective memory, and urban environmental problems. Ayá is the creator of the projects “Transcentrar,” “Beijos e Lambes,” and “Memória Para Meu Povo,” and their work has been published digitally in outlets such as Vogue, Midia Ninja, and Pearl Press.
