THE ROCK STORIE'S

JULY & RUY FOTOGRAFIA

We need to evolve daily, it is a daily war. Always seeking to be better than we can be.

BEFORE BEING A PHOTOGRAPHER, TELL US WHAT YOU WANTED TO BE?

July: Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to be a Journalist. Storytelling has always been a calling, starting because I talk too much!

Ruy: I had a vocation to be a football player. I was a good player, serious!! They call me “Messi” until today. Hehe!

TELL ME ABOUT THE MOMENT YOU DECIDED TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER?

July: In the opportunity that photography gave me to know so many stories and different cultures, making their memorization could reach generations.

Ruy: I entered the world of photography through filming. I liked to dance and then I recorded videos and edited for youtube in the middle of 2010-2012. After a few months, I started using the camera to take landscape images from my city and since then I have never stopped. The photograph simply tied me!

CAN YOU DEFINE PHOTOGRAPHY?

For us, photography records an era, the customs of a period in universal time. Are visual future nostalgia for a time that will never return.

FOR YOU, WHAT MAKES A GOOD PHOTOGRAPHER?

A good photographer needs to be humble, know how to listen and have technique.

FOR YOU, WHAT MAKES A GOOD PHOTOGRAPH?

Like the expression: “There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.” (Ansel Adams)
However, we believe that the sensitivity and ability to capture unique moments, are differential for any photographer to have good photographs.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE TODAY?

Our biggest challenge is to face “ours today”.
We need to evolve daily, it is a daily war. Always seeking to be better than we can be.

TELL US ABOUT THE DAY YOU FELT MOST PROUD ABOUT YOUR WORK?

We had two remarkable moments that made us very proud of what we love to do:

1 – When we were able to do our first job outside Brazil (It happened in Denmark). We perceive the desire, the affection that our customers feel for us and the importance of our work towards them.
2 – When a couple did everything so that all other wedding suppliers could change the date to the day we had availability. It was amazing to realize that we were there as important pieces on such a memorable day for them.

Tell us about the relationship you have with other photographers? How important you feel that is.

The exchange of knowledge will always be the main tool for the evolution of a professional. Listening to those who are starting out in photography or even those with extensive experience, makes professional growth evolve without limits. Being humble is the first step towards a decent career.

Can you tell us an advice – photography or business tip – that somehow made your career evolve at any point?

Our tip would be: Don’t be afraid to risk what you know can work.
Since we modified our photographic philosophy in relation to weddings and family, we invested in the proposal to expose only what we felt was our style. With some sudden changes in our brand, website, and social media, our customer list has grown considerably and best of all, they have become friends. Talking personally with couples has always been a positive point for us … listening to them and transmitting their attention to them, making them feel important, enriches our work and brings more inspiration so that everything flows perfectly.
