Before being a photographer, tell us what you wanted to be?
Isa wanted to work with image and film editing, Gabe wanted to be a fashion / editorial photographer.
Tell me about the moment you decided to become a photographer?
After graduating from college, Gábe in Graphic Design and Isa in Publicity, we spent some time working in the respective areas, but always photographing (as a hobby) in parallel. We spent a year living in Dublin and our way of seeing and living life has changed drastically. We came back from there with lots of references and inspirations which helped us to start Twin Lens, it took some time to officially open the company due to some anxiety issues. Until Gabe lost her job and Isa was already really exhausted from all the “normal”office work. That’s when the kick in the ass of courage came and we became full time photographers.
What was the best advise you received when you started your photographer carrier?
Believe in yourself. A phrase that until today is repeated by the people around us and by ourselves in moments of doubt. It sounds like a cliche, but if you do not have your heart in the right place and you’re sure that’s what you want to do, nothing flows.
Can you define photography?
Memories saved for posterity
For you, what makes a good photographer?
It is someone who can connect with your own essence and with the ones around you, regardless of who they are or circumstances and that can convey it through the images.
For you, what makes a good photograph?
A good photo is created by a good photographer. It is not limited only by techniques, focus, framing, light and composition, and so on. But how does it make you feel, what story does it pass, what emotion does it convey, what sound do you hear or what is the scent that you can smell.
What is your biggest challenge today?
Our biggest challenge today is to increase our confidence to show our face to the world! Use more of the engagement of social medias to show who we are as people, how we work and create a connection with everyone that has been following us.
Tell us about the day you felt most proud about your work?
With every wedding we make, we feel more and more accomplished and proud of our ability to evolve and improve what we have been able to improve. But so far our biggest pride has been the editorial we made this year-end. When we manage to put all our potential, style and vision into practice in the purest form, together with professionals with the same tune, magical things happen. And the best consequence to all of this, is recognition for the result.
Tell us about the relationship you have with other photographers? How important you feel that is.
We feel that is really important to show our support and admiration, especially for those who are well at the beginning. Any message of encouragement you send can work wonders for anyone who reads! For a long time this industry identified itself only as competitors to each other. And this only brings disunion and negative vibes. Thankfully that has been changing pretty fast and the difference is remarkable! We are here to help each other, exalt, inspire, with the same purpose and following the same path.
Can you tell us an advise - photography or business tip - that somehow made your career evolve at any point?
Do not forget that photography is an art, but it is also a business. Your business, your company and your source of income. It is important to have this awareness and to know how to separate the enjoyable part to the business one.
