BEFORE BEING A PHOTOGRAPHER, TELL US WHAT YOU WANTED TO BE?

Before being a photographer I really didn’t know what I wanted to do so photography kind of found me.

My roommate my second year at university asked me if I would take photos of her and her boyfriend and while the photos were awful I had so much fun taking them, it really sparked my interest in photographing couples.

TELL ME ABOUT THE MOMENT YOU DECIDED TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER?

My roommate my second year at university asked me if I would take photos of her and her boyfriend and while the photos were awful I had so much fun taking them, it really sparked my interest in photographing couples.

WHAT WAS THE BEST ADVISE YOU RECEIVED WHEN YOU STARTED YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER CARRIER?

The best advice I received when I first started was to be myself and don’t try to imitate other photographers style wise, because it can be easy to change based on what’s  popular.

TELL US ABOUT THE DAY YOU FELT MOST PROUD ABOUT YOUR WORK?

I don’t really think that you can give one definition of photography. Photography is an art and everyone sees, interprets, and creates it differently.

Can you define photography?

For you, what makes a good photographer?

For me I think a good photographer captures natural moments, a good photographer tries to push themselves to explore their creativity, and someone who is passionate.

FOR YOU, WHAT MAKES A GOOD PHOTOGRAPH?

To me a good photograph is something you can’t scroll away from right away, or can’t walk away from. It captivates you, even if it’s just for a moment.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE TODAY?

For me, my biggest challenge today as a photographer is comparing myself to other people.

TELL US ABOUT THE DAY YOU FELT MOST PROUD ABOUT YOUR WORK?

I have felt most proud of a styled shoot I did, that was featured on a wedding blog. I was so excited about this because I had the vision for the session for a while and I got to see it come to life!

TELL US ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP YOU HAVE WITH OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS?

I think it is SO important to connect with other photographers. It’s easy to feel like you’re in a rut or creatively blocked and being surrounded by like minded people can really inspire you!

CAN YOU TELL US AN ADVISE - PHOTOGRAPHY OR BUSINESS TIP - THAT SOMEHOW MADE YOUR CAREER EVOLVE AT ANY POINT?

A piece of advise that I have for anyone with a photography business in this day in age with social media, is feature accounts. I think people focus way to heavily on being featured and seen that it can be easy to lose focus on why we all do what we do which is to capture authentic moments between our couples or subjects. I struggled with that for a while. Now that I’m less focused on being featured, while it’s a great and has positive effects, I feel like I’m more passionate about the heart of photography.
